Asthma continues to be an issue in Solano County and is a contributing factor in the analysis for identifying impacted communities in Vacaville. In Vacaville, asthma incidents in almost all 19 census tracts are worse than 75 percent of the entire state, with some areas in the 85th percentile. On June 27, 2023, the City Council adopted Community Health goals, policies, and actions to address various issues including asthma, which included implementation action COS-A12.4 that tasks the City with developing an outreach program for owners and operators of existing projects that include sensitive receptors to explain the benefits of improvements such as landscaping, barriers, ventilation systems, air filters/cleaners, and or other effective measures. Asthma continues to be a quality-of-life issue in Solano County and Vacaville that results in greater visits to the emergency room. The City is providing the following information to help inform residents, property owners and business owners about how to improve indoor air quality.

    IMPACTED COMMUNITIES

19 Census Tracts in the City of Vacaville or overlapping city limits all scored within the 75th percentile for asthma. (CalEnviroScreen). Most are over the 85th percentile (Meaning worse than 85% of census tracts in California). The City’s goal is to raise community awareness and provide information that homeowners, tenants, and apartment managers can use to improve indoor air quality.

    ENVIRONMENTAL CAUSES

Some of the environmental causes for poor air quality include:

    • Pollution from truck traffic
    • Dust particles from agricultural
    • Pesticide use
    • Mold and Mildew in homes, schools, and workplaces
    • Indoor Air Quality (Dust, Pets, Cleaning chemicals)
