De Colores Park and Malaquias Montoya Center
Brown Street Park name – De Colores Park
The City of Vacaville Parks and Recreation Department submitted to the City Council the top nomination applications for names of seven parks and facilities within the City, including Brown Street Park, June 11, 2024. During the City Council Meeting, Brown Street Park adopted an official park name, De Colores Park, and the associated future Recreation Center for the park has been named Malaquias Montoya Center. View additional information on the naming process of these parks and facilities.
The proposed Project is located on a City-owned site on Brown Street adjacent to the Solano County William J. Carroll Government Center at 1119 East Monte Vista Avenue (see Attachment 4 and 5). The location is an ideal site since it provides easy access for neighborhood residents. The site will be developed in two phases. Phase 1 is the construction of a 2.3-acre neighborhood park, a 2,500 square foot community center and approximately 11,420 square foot parking lot totaling 2.42-acres. Phase 2 is the construction of a 10,000 square foot Housing and Community Services Department/Multi-purpose building, a 36,450 square foot parking lot, and site improvements totaling 1.1-acres. Phase 1 and Phase 2 will be developed on 3.52 acres of the site. In addition, approximately 0.58 acres is currently under negotiations with the Vacaville Neighborhood Boys and Girls Club.
On November 1, 2023, the Parks and Recreation Commission reviewed and provided input on the design of the new neighborhood park and a community center to serve the Brown-Markham neighborhood.
