Typical duties include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with program activities as needed;
- Interacting with participants in arts, crafts, games, and sports;
- Checking in participants;
- Interacting with the general public and vendors participating in recreation and community activities;
- Providing reception, customer service, recordkeeping, housekeeping and cash handling duties;
- Opening and closing facilities;
- Assisting with set-up and take down of equipment, materials and supplies;
- Assisting in office setting with shredding, data entry, filing, answering phone, greeting the public, other duties as needed.
Duties by Program Area
Adult and Youth Sports – Hours per week may vary
Duties may include, depending on program assignment(s): site facilitation, score keeping and/or equipment management for various sports such as softball, volleyball, tennis, t-ball, skateboarding, flag football and basketball; assisting program activities as needed; interacting with youth and participating in arts, crafts, games and sports; performing participant check-in, reception duties and cash handling duties; opening and closing facilities.
Concessions – Hours per week may vary
Duties may include: taking orders for food or beverage, presenting prices and packaging options, processing payments, operating food preparation equipment, and maintaining a clean, safe and sanitized work space.
Gymnastics – Approximately 10-12 hours per week
Duties may include, depending on program assignment(s): assisting with program facilitation; aiding with program activities, interacting with youth and young adults in programs, recreation classes, special events, camps, and open gyms; and equipment management.
Special Events – Hours per week may vary
Duties may include, depending on program assignment(s): interacting with the public and vendors participating in recreation and community activities; assisting with activities as needed; facilitating arts, crafts, games and sports; performing participant check-in, reception duties and cash handling duties; assisting with large equipment (stage and booth) set-up, take down and housekeeping; opening and closing facilities.
Therapeutic Recreation – Approximately 8 hours per week
Duties may include, depending on program assignment(s): assisting with programs and classes for individuals with disabilities including Sensory Room, Bowling and various other classes. Aiding with arts and crafts, games, and other activities. Assisting with onsite program support and program participants, performing participant check-in, assisting with equipment set-up, take down and housekeeping. Assisting in office setting with shredding, data entry, filing, greeting the public, other duties as needed Knowledge and experience with the special needs population is preferred.
Youth Services – Hours per week may vary
Duties may include, depending on program assignment(s): assisting with program activities as needed; interacting with youth in arts, crafts, games, and sports; performing participant check-in, reception duties and cash handling duties; assisting with equipment set-up, take down and housekeeping; opening and closing facilities.
Qualifying abilities depending on assignment: Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; relate well with members of the public including youth and their parents; demonstrate professional customer service and conflict resolution skills; understand and follow oral and written instructions; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; use sound judgment; lead and teach participants with minimal supervision; demonstrate leadership skills, responsibility, reliability, enthusiasm, and creativity; work in a busy environment; handle money accurately; maintain appropriate records; perform simple mathematical calculations; perform physical tasks associated with the job; work with little direct supervision once tasks are learned; exercise initiative and take independent action; understand age-appropriate behavior and discipline; and perform routine clerical work.
Physical and Sensory Requirements: Work may require sitting and standing; working both indoors and outside with exposure to heat, sunburn, weather, odors, dust and pollen; select positions may require moderate lifting up to 75 lbs. and carrying, bending, reaching, twisting, stooping, pulling and pushing up to 75 lbs. Work emphasizes speech, hearing and vision. Select positions may require hand and finger dexterity sufficient to use computers and standard office equipment to perform assignments. Select position may be assigned to work night and weekend hours.
