Project Update

We're excited to provide you with an update on the Downtown Utility Improvement Project, now well into the design phase. This initiative aims to replace and/or upside the aging water and sewer pipelines, ensuring enhanced reliability and capacity to support downtown revitalization efforts outlined in the Vacaville Downtown Specific Plan. Scheduled for construction beginning in Spring 2025 for approximately 12 months, this project is crucial for upgrading infrastructure to meet current and future needs, aligning with the City's commitment to improving essential services and supporting economic growth in our community.

The project is funded by a combination of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and local dollars as part of the City's capital improvement program. 

 Project Status

As we progress toward construction, the design team is evaluating various strategies to ensure the safety and efficiency of operations while minimizing disruption to the community. These typical strategies include: 

• General work hours will be from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and night work at certain areas, Monday through Friday.
• Minimize street and lane closures.
• Limited impact to on-street parking; advance notice provided before any work.
• Limited sidewalk closures.
• Minimize the potential for work on weekends and holidays.
• Provide advance notification to affected businesses and residences.
• Maintain driveway access for apartments, schools, and businesses.
• Minimize water and sewer service interruptions; advance notice provided before any work.
• Limit trenching to the contractor’s ability with a 400-foot or roughly a city block length.
• Require trench plates over the trench work area by the end of the workday.

These measures are essential to facilitate construction activities while ensuring minimal disruption to residents and businesses.
